Boogie Board: A General Review
There are generally two kinds of people in this world, the first one who doesn’t keep any type of notes and depends upon their memory to note everything down and the second one (my type) who maintains a range of devices for note taking and has arranged them all throughout their room.
For example, there are a few people who have managed to maintain a whiteboard hung beside their television or the refrigerator. Others have a scrappy notepad or sticky notes and stick each note on the surface of the refrigerator.
Yes, the refrigerator does come in handy while keeping notes considering how many times you open them in a day. But the problem with refrigerator friendly sticky notes is that if you have kids in the house those notes are sure to be misplaced or tampered with. If that is really the case, you must be searching for an alternative to the white board or the sticky notes system. Why not try an eWriter? The new Boogie Board equipped with many new and lucrative features has all the potential to replace your whiteboard once and for all. Let us have a look at why the Jot 8.5 is such a good device for both note keeping and your kid’s doodling?
Let us quickly go through the specifications of the Boogie board before we go on to analyze them in details.
- A writing experience that can be compared to that using paper and pen.
- Coin-cell battery that is replaceable and efficient.
- The LCD is more enhanced than the previous models and is sufficiently bright to write upon.
- A stylus dock has been provided which provides space to keep the stylus when it is not being used.
- If you want to display the message you have written to a group of people you will require a stand to place your device. The stylus also functions as a kickstand and provides you that facility.
- The device has magnets integrated within it which help it to be mounted on any surface that is compatible.
What do you get within the Box?
The box generally contains three products
- Boogie Board eWriter Jot 8.5 – 1 piece
- Stylus- 1 piece
- User manual- 1 piece
What about the design?
Now let us come to the analysis. The device that is the Boogie board is actually a rectangular shaped thin tablet with slightly convex top and bottom and slightly inward dipping longer sides. The surface is 9 x 53/4 inches and it mostly contains the eWriter screen. The erase button along with the Boogie Board brand logo takes up the small remaining portion. The stylus can be stored in a bezel located at the bottom of the device. The thickness of the device is a mere 0.25 inches which makes it incredibly thin as per eWriter standards. The back of the device is equipped with two magnets which make the device compatible to be hanged on to the refrigerator surface and any other metal surfaces such as locker or metal cupboard where note making can be effective. It has a 41/2 inches stylus which goes in the bottom bezel. The only problem arises when you have stuck the board to the refrigerator and trying to take the stylus out.
Another important aspect of the design is the color. The Boogie Board comes in pink, gray, and blue which are only the colors of the plastic made areas.
Is it user-friendly?
The magic of the Boogie Board is that the user only needs to know how to write, draw or scribble to able to use the device. As I had mentioned before Boogie Board aims to provide its users a near pen and paper experience which they have come pretty close to. It is just a screen on which you can simply write, scribble or draw and once you want a clear slate just press the erase button and the board will refresh itself.
The level of performance
The performance level is pretty top-notch. We have discussed how the writing is easy and effective, the screen is also brighter in the newer Jot 8.5 and the stylus is pretty easy to handle as well as keep. Your finger or any other blunt object can work just as fine on the Boogie Board. The new Jot also comes with an IOS app which enables users to transfer any drawings, list or scribbles to their IOS supported device. Just open the app and point the camera at the drawing and it will automatically take a snapshot of the drawing.
The market price is around $22.99 which is just about fine considering the convenience one can get by using this product.
